Introduced  by Sen. SAMPSON -- (at request of the Office of Court Admin-
  istration) -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed  to  be
  committed to the Committee on Finance

AN  ACT  to  amend the public officers law, in relation to expanding the
  definition of "employee" for the purposes of defense and  indemnifica-
  tion of certain nonjudicial employees

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 17 of the public officers  law  is
amended by adding a new paragraph (w) to read as follows:
  (W)  FOR PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, THE TERM "EMPLOYEE" SHALL INCLUDE A
PERSON CERTIFIED BY THE OFFICE OF COURT ADMINISTRATION AND PAID  BY  THE
CITY  OF  NEW  YORK  TO  SERVE  AS  A  GUARDIAN AD LITEM IN AN ACTION OR
PROCEEDING PENDING IN THE HOUSING PART OF THE CIVIL COURT OF THE CITY OF
NEW YORK.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
