AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to protecting  the
  purchasers of defective computer equipment

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new article
16-A to read as follows:

SECTION 266. SHORT TITLE.
        267. DEFINITIONS.
        268. NOTICE TO PURCHASER.
        269. COVERAGE AND COVERAGE PERIOD.
        269-A. RECORDS.
        269-B. CIVIL ACTIONS.
        269-C. ATTORNEY FEES.
        269-D. PROHIBITED DEFENSES.
        269-E. EXPERT WITNESS.
        269-F. APPLICATION.
        269-G. RIGHTS PRESERVED.
        269-H. NON-WAIVER.
        269-I. APPLICABILITY.
  S 266. SHORT TITLE. THIS ARTICLE SHALL BE KNOWN AND MAY  BE  CITED  AS
THE "COMPUTER LEMON LAW".
  S 267. DEFINITIONS. AS USED IN THIS ARTICLE:
  (A)  "BRAND  NEW  COMPUTER"  MEANS  A  COMPUTER  DEVICE WHICH HAS BEEN
RECENTLY ASSEMBLED, IS UNUSED, AND CONTAINS NO RECONDITIONED PARTS.
  (B) "COMPUTER DEVICE" MEANS A  CENTRAL  PROCESSING  UNIT  OR  TERMINAL
DISPLAY SCREEN, INCLUDING ALL CIRCUITRY AND CONNECTIVE DEVICES; A PRINT-
ER;  A MODEM; A SCANNER; OR ANY OTHER DEVICE USED WITH A COMPUTER OR ANY

 EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
                      [ ] is old law to be omitted.
