BILL NUMBER: S435
TITLE OF BILL :
An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to requiring
events related to veterans be displayed on a bulletin board in each
city or town hall
PURPOSE :
This legislation would require all town and village halls to
conspicuously display events related to veterans on a bulletin board.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS :
Section 1 adds a new section 99-v to the general municipal law to
require all town and village halls to conspicuously display events
related to veterans on a bulletin board. Further to require the
bulletin boards be updated monthly. Section 2 is the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION :
With more and more veterans coming home from the ongoing conflict in
Iraq, it is important to continue our dedication to civic involvement
of our veterans. By requiring our city and town halls to conspicuously
post a bulletin board detailing information important to our veterans
we will ensure that they can receive information that is important to
them.

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL :
This legislation would allow each county, city, town or village to
adopt a local law to provide a bulletin board to be conspicuously
displayed in such municipality building holding its local legislative
body or municipal offices. Veterans would be able to display
information regarding veterans including benefits or upcoming related
events.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS :
Section 1 adds a new section 99-v to the General Municipal Law to
allow each county, city, town or village to adopt a local law to
provide a bulletin board to be placed in the municipality building
holding its local legislative body or municipal offices and allow
veteran organization to display information.
Section 2 makes the effective date on the ninetieth day after it has

AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to requiring
events related to veterans be displayed on a bulletin board
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new
section 99-v to read as follows:
S 99-V. VETERANS AFFAIRS; DISPLAY OF EVENTS. EACH COUNTY, CITY, TOWN
OR VILLAGE MAY ADOPT A LOCAL LAW TO PROVIDE A BULLETIN BOARD TO BE
CONSPICUOUSLY DISPLAYED IN SUCH COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR VILLAGE BUILDING
HOLDING ITS LOCAL LEGISLATIVE BODY OR MUNICIPAL OFFICES. SUCH BULLETIN
BOARD SHALL BE USED BY VETERANS ORGANIZATIONS, THE NEW YORK STATE DIVI-
SION OF VETERANS' AFFAIRS, THE COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE AGENCY OR CITY
VETERANS SERVICE AGENCY TO DISPLAY INFORMATION REGARDING VETERANS IN
SUCH COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR VILLAGE. SUCH INFORMATION MAY INCLUDE, BUT
NOT BE LIMITED TO, BENEFITS OR UPCOMING VETERANS RELATED EVENTS IN THE
COMMUNITY.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
have become a law, provided, however, that effective immediately, the
addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary
for the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized
and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
