AN  ACT relating to the appointment of a superior officer in the Village
  of Freeport police department

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  Notwithstanding any provision of the labor law, the civil
service law or any local laws, codes, rules, regulations  or  orders  of
the  state  of New York or its subdivisions, including any county, town,
city, village, special district or public authority,  or  commission  or
other  agency  thereof,  any person who has qualified to be appointed to
the position of superior officer of lieutenant or above  in  any  police
department  pursuant to the civil service laws of the state, the city of
New York or the county of Nassau, shall be eligible for  appointment  to
any  post or position of superior officer in the Incorporated Village of
Freeport, including chief of police, to which he or she may be appointed
by the executive or legislative body of such village. Any such  appoint-
ment shall be with or without limitation of time, at the election of the
appointing authority.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
