BILL NUMBER:A10760 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the religious corporations law, in relation to the annual election of the trustees of a free Methodist church PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this legislation is to eliminate the time period during which a free Methodist church must hold its annual election of trustees. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1: Subdivision 1 of section 225-f of the religious corporations law, is amended. Section 2: Effec- tive Date, JUSTIFICATION: This legislation has been requested by the free Metho- dist church because current law stipulates that the church must elect trustees within tree months of when they hold their annual conference. This is problematic because the church's annual society meeting to elect trustees cannot be held until June or July, which is longer than the three months currently required. Other denominations do not have such restrictions, and they have requested the change in law to help them administer their organization more effectively.
