AN  ACT  to  amend the election law, in relation to the number of signa-
  tures needed for a designating petition for a candidate  for  delegate
  to a constitutional convention

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 6-136 of the election law is amended  by  adding  a
new subdivision 4 to read as follows:
  4. THE NUMBER OF SIGNATURES ON A PETITION TO DESIGNATE A CANDIDATE FOR
THE  OFFICE OF DELEGATE-AT-LARGE TO A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION NEED NOT
EXCEED SEVEN THOUSAND  FIVE  HUNDRED  SIGNATURES,  AND  TO  DESIGNATE  A
DISTRICT DELEGATE THE NUMBER NEED NOT EXCEED FIVE HUNDRED SIGNATURES.
  S  2.  Section  6-142  of  the election law is amended by adding a new
subdivision 3 to read as follows:
  3. AN INDEPENDENT NOMINATING PETITION FOR A  CANDIDATE  OF  OFFICE  OF
DELEGATE-AT-LARGE  TO  A  CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION MUST BE SIGNED BY AT
LEAST SEVEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED VOTERS AND A NOMINATING  PETITION  FOR
OFFICE OF DISTRICT DELEGATE MUST BE SIGNED BY AT LEAST ONE THOUSAND FIVE
HUNDRED VOTERS.
  S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
