AN ACT authorizing the Suffolk county  society  for  the  prevention  of
  cruelty to animals to make inspections and impose fines

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the  contrary,  the
county  of Suffolk is hereby authorized to enter into such agreements as
may be determined necessary and appropriate by the county  executive  to
conduct inspections of pet dealers and to respond to complaints concern-
ing  pet  dealers  in  the county of Suffolk in an effort to protect the
welfare of all animals and alleviate  the  pain  and  suffering  of  any
abused, neglected or abandoned animal.  The county of Suffolk is further
authorized  to enforce the provisions of article 26-A of the agriculture
and markets law and provide penalties for violations in accordance  with
section 406 of the agriculture and markets law.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
