Provides to employees a listing of participating providers by paper or electronic media with each listing to include the provider's name, address, and telephone number of all participating providers; further provides that each insurer shall provide notice to each insured that a paper listing of participating providers and facilities is available upon request.

AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to providing to employees
  a  listing of participating providers by paper or electronic media and
  providing notice that a written listing of participating providers  is
  available upon request

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Paragraph 17 of subsection (a) of  section  3217-a  of  the
insurance  law,  as added by chapter 705 of the laws of 1996, is amended
to read as follows:
  (17) where applicable, a listing by specialty, which may be in a sepa-
rate document that is  updated  annually,  of  [the]  ALL  PARTICIPATING
PROVIDERS, INCLUDING FACILITIES, SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO EMPLOYEES BY
PAPER  OR  ELECTRONIC  MEDIA.  EACH LISTING SHALL INCLUDE THE PROVIDER'S
name, address, and telephone  number  of  all  participating  providers,
including  facilities, and in addition, in the case of physicians, board
certification.  IN ADDITION, EACH INSURER SUBJECT TO THIS ARTICLE  SHALL
PROVIDE  NOTICE  TO  EACH  INSURED THAT A PAPER LISTING OF PARTICIPATING
PROVIDERS AND FACILITIES IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
