AN ACT to amend the judiciary law and the family court act, in relation
to the number of justices of the supreme court in the ninth judicial
district and family court judges in the counties of Westchester and
Rockland
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Subdivision 9 of section 140-a of the judiciary law, as
amended by chapter 240 of the laws of 2005, is amended to read as
follows:
9. Ninth district, [twenty-eight] THIRTY-TWO;
S 2. Subdivision (h) of section 131 of the family court act, as
amended by chapter 500 of the laws of 1982, is amended to read as
follows:
(h) In the county of Westchester there shall be [three] FIVE addi-
tional family court judges and the number of such judges now existing is
hereby increased accordingly. The compensation of each additional family
court judge shall be the same as the existing family court judge in such
county.
S 3. Subdivision (k) of section 131 of the family court act, as added
by chapter 158 of the laws of 1971, is amended to read as follows:
(k) In the county of Rockland there shall be [one] TWO additional
family court [judge] JUDGES and the number of such judges now existing
is hereby increased accordingly. The compensation of the additional
family court [judge] JUDGES shall be the same as the existing family
court judge in such county.
S 4. This act shall take effect immediately; provided that the addi-
tional justices of the supreme court and judges of the family court
provided for by this act shall first be elected at the general election
to be held in November, 2009, and shall first take office January 1,
2010.
