TITONE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Operations AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring that motor vehicles operated by the state police be equipped with automated external defibrillators THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 231 to read as follows: S 231. AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS. ANY MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATED BY A MEMBER OF THE STATE POLICE WHILE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS OR HER DUTIES SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR. THE SUPERINTENDENT OF STATE POLICE IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED TO ESTABLISH RULES AND REGULATIONS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE TRAINING TO SUCH MEMBERS IN THE OPERATION OF SUCH DEFIBRILLATORS. FOR PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, THE TERM AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR SHALL HAVE THE SAME MEANING AS SUCH TERM IS DEFINED IN PARAGRAPH (A) OF SUBDIVISION ONE OF SECTION THREE THOUSAND-B OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH LAW. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to motor vehicles operated on and after June 1, 2009.
