2009-A7321 (ACTIVE) - Summary
Directs the New York city transit authority to inspect all emergency brake cords and door safety circuits of all in-service subway cars at least once every two weeks to ensure proper operation and provides that any subway cars failing inspection shall be removed from service until repaired and reinspected and provides for bi-annual status reports to be issued to the New York city transit authority advisory council.

TOBACCO -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to safety inspections on subway cars THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1204 of the public authorities law is amended by adding a new subdivision 20 to read as follows: 20. THE AUTHORITY SHALL INSPECT, OR CAUSE TO BE INSPECTED, ALL EMER- GENCY BRAKE CORDS AND DOOR SAFETY CIRCUITS OF ALL IN-SERVICE SUBWAY CARS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION. SUBWAY CARS THAT FAIL INSPECTION SHALL BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE UNTIL REPAIRED AND REINSPECTED. THE AUTHORITY, HAVING INSPECTED ALL BRAKE CORDS AND DOOR SAFETY CIRCUITS ON SUBWAY CARS OPERATED BY THE AUTHORITY, WILL ISSUE BIANNUAL STATUS REPORTS TO THE NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT AUTHORITY ADVISORY COUNCIL. S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
