AN  ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to prohibitions imposed upon
  firefighters by paid fire companies

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  The labor law is amended by adding a new section 220-i to
read as follows:
  S 220-I. PROHIBITION OF OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT BY PAID FIRE COMPANY.    NO
PAID  FIRE  COMPANY SERVING A CITY, COUNTY, TOWN OR VILLAGE, INCLUDING A
CITY WITH A POPULATION OF ONE MILLION OR MORE,  SHALL  PROHIBIT  A  PAID
FIREFIGHTER  FROM  VOLUNTEERING  HIS  OR HER SERVICE AND TIME OUTSIDE OF
WORK WITH A VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY OR DEPARTMENT. ANY  PROVISION  IN  AN
EMPLOYMENT  CONTRACT  WHICH  PROHIBITS SUCH SERVICE SHALL BE DEEMED NULL
AND VOID.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
