BENJAMIN -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to prohibiting candidates for election to a public office from accepting contributions from charitable organizations THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 14-114 of the election law is amended by adding a new subdivision 1-a to read as follows: 1-A. NO CANDIDATE FOR ELECTION TO ANY PUBLIC OFFICE OR FOR NOMINATION FOR ANY SUCH OFFICE, OR FOR ELECTION TO ANY PARTY POSITION, OR A TREAS- URER OF A CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE, SHALL ACCEPT ANY CONTRIBUTION FROM ANY CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION OR ANY OTHER TAX EXEMPT NOT-FOR-PROFIT ENTITY. ANY PERSON WHO VIOLATES ANY PROVISION OF THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL BE SUBJECT TO A CIVIL FINE IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR EACH OFFENSE COMMITTED. S 2.
