TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the state law, in relation to the state
wine
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF THE BILL: Designate Riesling as the official
white wine and Merlot as the official red wine of the state of New York.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amend the state law by adding a new
section 89 that would designate Riesling as the official white wine and
merlot as the official red wine of the state of New York,
JUSTIFICATION: The New York wine industry is growing and thriving
providing important economic development opportunities for communities
across the state. This legislation would help to ensure the continued
success of this industry by further promoting the New York brand. New
York is a world renowned producer of Riesling and Merlot, by designating
these types as official state wines the legislature will properly recog-
nize and promote the achievements of New York winemakers.

FISCAL IMPLICATION: None for the state of New York.
EFFECTIVE DATE: Effective Immediately.

AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation to the state wine
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The state law is amended by adding a new section 89 as
follows:
S 89. STATE WINE. RIESLING SHALL BE THE OFFICIAL WHITE WINE AND MERLOT
SHALL BE THE OFFICIAL RED WINE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK.
S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
