BILL NUMBER: S3149 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the legislative law, in relation to prohibiting outside work by a legislator during the term of office PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : Prohibits a member of the legislature from engaging in any outside paid activity during his or her term of office SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : The legislative law is amended by adding a new section 2-a to read that members are prohibited from engaging in outside activity for renumeration while in office. JUSTIFICATION : How much transparency should be demanded by the people of their representatives? As long as we allow legislators to hold outside business interests, there is a potential that these outside business interests could one day come into conflict. This could create a situation, or at least in the public's eye, the perception of one. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : New bill.
