BILL NUMBER: S5138 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the judiciary law, the family court act and chapter 278 of the laws of 1958, constituting the Suffolk county charter, in relation to increasing the number of certain judgeships in the county of Suffolk PURPOSE : To increase the number of certain judgeships in the county of Suffolk. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Adds ten additional judgeships in Suffolk County. JUSTIFICATION : In 2005, the Unified Court System's Judicial Needs Analysis indicated a need for additional judgeships in Suffolk County. This legislation provides for: Two Supreme Court Judgeships. LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, the family court act and chapter 278 of the laws of 1958, constituting the Suffolk county charter, in relation to increasing the number of certain judgeships in the county of Suffolk THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 10 of section 140-a of the judiciary law, as amended by chapter 209 of the laws of 1990, is amended to read as follows: 10. Tenth district, [forty-seven] FORTY-EIGHT; S 2. Subdivision 10 of section 140-a of the judiciary law, as amended by section one of this act, is amended to read as follows: 10. Tenth district, [forty-eight] FORTY-NINE; S 3. Subdivision 47 of section 182 of the judiciary law, as amended by chapter 500 of the laws of 1982, is amended to read as follows: 47. Suffolk, [eleven] THIRTEEN; S 4. Subdivision 47 of section 182 of the judiciary law, as amended by section three of this act, is amended to read as follows: 47. Suffolk, [thirteen] FIFTEEN; S 5. Subdivision (p) of section 131 of the family court act, as amended by chapter 500 of the laws of 1982, is amended to read as follows: (p) In the county of Suffolk there shall be [four] FIVE additional family court judges making a total of [ten] ELEVEN family court judges in such county. The number of such judges now existing in such county is hereby increased accordingly. The compensation of each such family court judge shall be the same as the compensation of existing family court judges in such county.
