BILL NUMBER: S5326 TITLE OF BILL : An act to authorize Greenwood Lake Union Free school district to file for aid on behalf of certain students receiving certain educational services from Tuxedo Union Free school district PURPOSE : To authorize Greenwood Lake to retain financial responsibility for state aid for students receiving educational services from Tuxedo. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1: Authorizes Greenwood Lake Union Free School District to file for aid on behalf of certain educational services from Tuxedo Union Free School District. Section 2: Effective date. JUSTIFICATION : Greenwood Lake UFSD has had a long-standing relationship with the Tuxedo UFSD to educate their high school students. Unfortunately the cost of educating students has risen precipitously because of the unusual difference in wealth between the two districts. Tuxedo is a high wealth district so the aid passed on to Greenwood Lake is the bare minimum of aid. If Greenwood Lake could retain those students within the Greenwood Lake UFSD, they could collect considerably higher

MORAHAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to authorize Greenwood Lake Union Free school district to file for aid on behalf of certain students receiving certain educational services from Tuxedo Union Free school district THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, for the 2009--2010 school year and thereafter, the Greenwood Lake union free school district, in any year in which it maintains an elementary school and does not operate a kindergarten through twelve program and contracts for education of all of its secondary pupils in the Tuxedo union free school district, may elect to receive any aids apportioned pursuant to, or in lieu of, sections 701, 711, 751, 753, 1104, 1950, 3602, 3602-b, 3602-c, 3602-e, 3612 and 4405 of the education law for such secondary pupils as if they were enrolled at, and in attendance at the Greenwood Lake union free school district, the Tuxedo union free school district shall not be eligible for aid apportioned pursuant to, or in lieu of, sections 701, 711, 751, 753, 1104, 1950, 3602, 3602-b, 3602-c, 3602-e, 3612 and 4405 of the education law for such secondary pupils, and shall not include such aid in calculation of the tuition charge payable by the Greenwood Lake union free school district for such secondary pupils.
