BILL NUMBER: S6882 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the designation of the "General Casimir Pulaski highway" PURPOSE : To designate state highway route l04 from the Genesee River to the Irondequoit Bay bridge, "General Casimir Pulaski highway." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1: The highway law is amended by adding new section 343-u which designates state highway route 104 from the Genesee River to the Irondequoit Bay bridge, "General Casimir Pulaski highway." Section 2: Directs that the commissioner of transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of signing. Also states that this designation is ceremonial and the official name will not change. Section 3: Effective Date. JUSTIFICATION : General Casimir Pulaski was a Polish soldier who has been called "the father of American cavalry." From 1777 until his death, General Pulaski fought heroically for the independence of the United States. General Pulaski is a heroic figure in American History and in

ALESI, MAZIARZ -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to the designation of the "General Casimir Pulaski highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-x to read as follows: S 343-X. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "GENERAL CASIMIR PULASKI HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGH- WAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE HIGHWAY ROUTE I-104 FROM THE GENESEE RIVER TO THE IRONDEQUOIT BAY BRIDGE, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "GENERAL CASIMIR PULASKI HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of a ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
