  when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education

AN ACT to amend the education  law,  in  relation  to  requiring  school
  districts to provide copies of the proposed school budget upon request
  of school district residents

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 1501-d
to read as follows:
  S 1501-D. COPIES OF PROPOSED SCHOOL BUDGETS. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER
PROVISION OF THIS CHAPTER OR OF ANY OTHER LAW, RULE OR REGULATION TO THE
CONTRARY, EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE STATE SHALL PROVIDE A COPY OF THE
PROPOSED SCHOOL BUDGET TO  ANY  RESIDENT  RESIDING  WITHIN  SUCH  SCHOOL
DISTRICT  WHO  REQUESTS  A  COPY  OF SUCH PROPOSED SCHOOL BUDGET FOR THE
PERIOD COMMENCING THIRTY DAYS BEFORE SUCH VOTE AND  ENDING  THE  DAY  OF
SUCH VOTE.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
