  printed to be committed to the Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi-
  ty and Military Affairs

AN ACT to amend the military law, in relation to veterans housing  bene-
  fits

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The military law is amended by adding a new  section  235-b
to read as follows:
  S  235-B.  VETERANS  RESIDENCY  REQUIREMENTS  FOR  STUDENT OR ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM HOUSING. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY INCONSISTENT  PROVISION
OF  LAW  TO  THE  CONTRARY, ANY PROGRAM FOR THE PROVISION OF HOUSING FOR
VETERANS, WHICH RECEIVES FUNDING OR ASSISTANCE FROM ANY STATE  OR  LOCAL
SOURCE OR PUBLIC AUTHORITY, SHALL NOT IMPOSE A REQUIREMENT OR PRIOR TERM
OF  RESIDENCY  UPON THE VETERAN WHO IS TO RECEIVE ANY BENEFIT AWARDED BY
SUCH HOUSING PROGRAM, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO A REDUCED COST  HOUS-
ING BENEFIT.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
