BILL NUMBER:S8147 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring a member of the uniformed metropolitan transportation authority police force to be present at each bridge and tunnel under the jurisdiction of such authority and any of its subsidiary corporations; and to amend chapter 47 of the laws of 1931 declaring the policy of the states of New York and New Jersey in regard to certain vehicular bridges and tunnels within the port of New York district, in relation to requiring a member of the port authority uniformed police force to be present at each bridge and tunnel under the jurisdiction of such authority PURPOSE: Requires police to be present at all bridges and tunnels under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority or the Port Authority. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends the public authorities law by adding a new section 1266-j requiring a police presence at all bridges and tunnels under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Section two amends chapter 47 of the laws of 1931 declaring the policy of the states of New York and New Jersey in regard to certain

LANZA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring a member of the uniformed metropolitan transportation authority police force to be present at each bridge and tunnel under the jurisdiction of such authority and any of its subsidiary corporations; and to amend chapter 47 of the laws of 1931 declaring the policy of the states of New York and New Jersey in regard to certain vehicular bridges and tunnels within the port of New York district, in relation to requiring a member of the port authority uniformed police force to be present at each bridge and tunnel under the jurisdiction of such authority THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new section 1266-j to read as follows: S 1266-J. BRIDGES AND TUNNELS; POLICE. THE AUTHORITY SHALL ENSURE AND PROVIDE FOR THE PRESENCE AT ALL TIMES OF AT LEAST ONE MEMBER OF THE UNIFORMED AUTHORITY POLICE FORCE AT EACH BRIDGE AND TUNNEL UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE AUTHORITY OR ANY OF ITS SUBSIDIARY CORPORATIONS. S 2. Chapter 47 of the laws of 1931 declaring the policy of the states of New York and New Jersey in regard to certain vehicular bridges and tunnels within the port of New York district is amended by adding a new section 11-a to read as follows: S 11-A. THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY SHALL ENSURE AND PROVIDE FOR THE PRESENCE AT ALL TIMES OF AT LEAST ONE MEMBER OF THE UNIFORMED POLICE FORCE OF SUCH AUTHORITY AT EACH BRIDGE AND TUNNEL UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE PORT AUTHORITY. S 3. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have become a law; except that section two of this act shall take effect upon the enactment into law by the state of New Jersey of legislation having an identical effect with section two of this act, but if the state of New Jersey shall have already enacted such legislation, section two of this act shall take effect immediately; provided that the chair- man of the port authority of New York and New Jersey shall notify the EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
