AN  ACT  to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to reimburse-
  ment for costs incurred by emergency services as a result  of  driving
  while intoxicated

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Subdivision 1-a of section 1193 of the vehicle and  traffic
law is amended by adding a new paragraph (c-1) to read as follows:
  (C-1)  A  COURT SENTENCING A PERSON PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION MAY ORDER
THE PERSON SO SENTENCED TO REIMBURSE ANY PROVIDER OF EMERGENCY SERVICES,
INCLUDING  BUT  NOT  LIMITED  TO  POLICE,  AMBULANCE,  OR   FIREFIGHTING
SERVICES,  FOR  COSTS  INCURRED  AS  A  RESULT OF ANY EMERGENCY RESPONSE
RESULTING FROM THE INCIDENCE OF OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE FOR WHICH A
PERSON HAS BEEN SENTENCED.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed-
ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
