BILL NUMBER:S1017

TITLE OF BILL:

An act
to amend the elder law, in relation to designated agencies in
the city of Yonkers

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

To amend the law to enable the City of Yonkers to be designated as an
area agency on the aging.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:

This bill amends paragraph (a) of Subdivision 1 of Section 214 of the
Elder Law to allow the City of Yonkers to be designated as an area
agency on aging pursuant to the 1965 federal Older Americans Act.

JUSTIFICATION:

Currently, senior citizen funding is allocated by a county area agency
on the aging. This measure would give the City of Yonkers, which is
larger than many counties, the ability to receive direct funding for
programs for the aging. Since cities such as Yonkers contain a
growing population of senior citizens, this should lead to an
increase in funding and available programs for a population with
significant unmet needs.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:

2009/2010 - S.4288 - Died - Finance

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:

N one to the State.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

This act shall take effect immediately.
