AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to endangering the welfare of
  a child

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1. Section 260.10 of the penal law is amended by adding a new
subdivision 1-a to read as follows:
  1-A. BEING A PARENT, GUARDIAN OR OTHER PERSON LEGALLY CHARGED WITH THE
CARE OR CUSTODY OF A CHILD LESS THAN  EIGHTEEN  YEARS  OLD,  HE  OR  SHE
ATTEMPTS  TO  INJURE, THREATENS TO INJURE, KNOWINGLY INJURES, OR ENGAGES
IN CONDUCT LIKELY TO INJURE A MEMBER OF THE CHILD'S FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD;
OR
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
