BILL NUMBER:S2572 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to special license plates for the New York city auxiliary police SUMMARY: Upon request, would issue distinctive license plates to New York City Auxiliary police members. The license plate would bear the letters "NYCAP". JUSTIFICATION: The outstanding work performed by the auxiliary police of New York City should be recognized by their distinctive automobile plates. This legislation is similar to previously passed legislation recognizing the merits of auxiliary police and volunteer firefighters in areas of the state outside of New York City. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None. Auxiliary police officer would pay $15 for the purchase of distinctive license plates. EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately.

KRUGER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to special license plates for the New York city auxiliary police THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new section 404-x to read as follows: S 404-X. DISTINCTIVE PLATES FOR NEW YORK CITY AUXILIARY POLICE. 1. ANY NEW YORK CITY AUXILIARY POLICE MEMBER RESIDING IN THIS STATE SHALL, UPON REQUEST, BE ISSUED A LICENSE PLATE BEARING THE LETTERS "NYCAP". IF A DISTINCTIVE PLATE IS ISSUED TO A NEW YORK CITY AUXILIARY POLICE MEMBER PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION, SUCH DISTINCTIVE PLATE SHALL NOT BE ISSUED TO THE SPOUSE OF SUCH MEMBER. APPLICATION FOR SAID LICENSE SHALL BE FILED WITH THE COMMISSIONER IN SUCH FORM AND DETAIL AS THE COMMISSIONER SHALL PRESCRIBE, AND SHALL BE VERIFIED ANNUALLY BY THE APPLICANT. 2. THE DISTINCTIVE PLATE AUTHORIZED IN SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION SHALL BE ISSUED UPON PROOF, SATISFACTORY TO THE COMMISSIONER, THAT THE APPLICANT IS PRESENTLY AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE NEW YORK CITY AUXILIARY POLICE. 3. A DISTINCTIVE PLATE ISSUED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION SHALL BE ISSUED IN THE SAME MANNER AS OTHER NUMBER PLATES UPON PAYMENT OF THE REGULAR REGISTRATION FEE PRESCRIBED BY SECTION FOUR HUNDRED ONE OF THIS ARTICLE AND AN ADDITIONAL ANNUAL SERVICE CHARGE OF FIFTEEN DOLLARS.
