BILL NUMBER:S4295 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the state law, in relation to making the onion the official state vegetable PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To establish the onion as the official vegetable of New York State. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Amends the State law by adding a new section 89 designating the onion as the official vegetable of the state of New York. JUSTIFICATION: Onions aye one of the most important vegetable crops in New York in terms of crop value. The principle type of onion grown is the pungent yellow globe, and most aye produced on muck (high organic matter) soils. Costs of production are higher for onions than any other vegetable crop in New York. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

The state law is amended by adding a new section 89 to read as follows: S 89. STATE VEGETABLE. THE ONION SHALL BE THE OFFICIAL VEGETABLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK. S 2.
