Increases the maximum bingo prize awards in a single game and on single bingo occasions.

BILL NUMBER:S491 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to increasing the maximum prize awards allowed in bingo games PURPOSE: Raise minimum limits on bingo games run by charitable organizations. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Increases maximum bingo prize from $1,000.00 to $3,000.00 and aggregate total prize from $3,000.00 to $6,000.00. JUSTIFICATION: In these times of fiscal restraint not for profit organizations and charitable organizations need alternative methods of fundraising. Increasing the bingo prizes will enable those organizations to make more money from bingo by charging more based upon the larger prize award. ROBACH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wager- ing AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to increasing the maximum prize awards allowed in bingo games THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivisions 5 and 6 of section 479 of the general munici- pal law, as amended by chapter 328 of the laws of 1994, are amended to read as follows: 5. No prize shall exceed the sum or value of [one] THREE thousand dollars in any single game of bingo. 6. No series of prizes on any one bingo occasion shall aggregate more than [three] SIX thousand dollars. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
