BILL NUMBER:S6221

TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to exempting
active duty military personnel from taking required hunting courses for
purposes of obtaining a hunting license

PURPOSE:
To exempt active duty military personnel from the required hunters
safety course before getting a hunting license.

SUMMARY:
Section 1 amends section 11-0713 of the environmental conservation law
to allow proof of active duty military status as a qualification for
receipt of a hunting license.

Section 2 provides the enacting clause.

JUSTIFICATION:
While members of our active duty military receive current training in
the safe operation of fire arms, they are still required to undergo a
hunting safety course in order to obtain a hunting license in the
State.

For their great service to our country, it is appropriate to offer an
exemption to the active duty military personnel from the hunters
safety course.

To be eligible for an exemption under this bill, the individual must
be in active duty with a branch of the United States military or with
a force of the organized militia with an active status.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
S.6162 of 2009 - Referred to Rules
S.6162 of 2010 - Referred to Environmental Conservation

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None to the state.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
