S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 3933 2011-2012 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y January 31, 2011 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. DenDEKKER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to prohibiting certain first responders from charging fees charged by certain first responders THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new section 122-a to read as follows: S 122-A. PROHIBITION ON CHARGING FEES FOR CERTAIN FIRST RESPONDERS SERVICE. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW, NO MUNICIPALITY SHALL CHARGE A PERSON A FEE FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT OR FIRE DEPARTMENT SERVICES PROVIDED IN RESPONSE TO AN ACCIDENT OR OTHER EMERGENCY INVOLV- ING SUCH PERSON OR HIS OR HER PROPERTY. THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY TO AMBULANCE SERVICES. S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have become a law; provided, however, that effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date is authorized to be made and completed on or before such date.
