AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to  geriatric  educa-
  tion centers

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. 1. The commissioner of health shall transfer to the  direc-
tor  of  the  office for the aging funds allocated pursuant to paragraph
(iii) of subdivision 1 of section 2807-v of the public  health  law,  as
added  by  section  two  of this act, for the purpose of maintaining the
ability of geriatric education centers, as defined in  42  U.S.C.  294c,
to:  (a)  improve  the  training  of health professionals in geriatrics,
including geriatric residencies, traineeships or fellowships; (b) devel-
op and disseminate curricula relating to the  treatment  of  the  health
problems of elderly individuals; (c) support the training and retraining
of  faculty  to  provide  instruction  in  geriatrics;  and  (d) provide
students with clinical training in geriatrics in nursing homes,  chronic
and  acute  disease  hospitals,  ambulatory  care  centers,  and  senior
centers. The director of the office for the aging shall distribute  such
funds  as follows: forty percent to the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education
Center, forty percent to the  Consortium  of  New  York  Geriatric  Care
Centers,  and  twenty  percent  to  the  Long Island Geriatric Education
Center.
  2. Each geriatric education center receiving funds pursuant  to  para-
graph (iii) of subdivision 1 of section 2807-v of the public health law,
as  added  by section two of this act, within one year of receiving such
funds, shall submit a written report to the director of the  office  for
the  aging on a form established therefore by such director, demonstrat-
ing its use of such funds including, but not limited to: (a) the  commu-
nity  linkages  that  have been established; (b) how many professionals,
indicated by title; paraprofessionals, indicated by title; students  and
