LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered print- ed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transporta- tion IN ASSEMBLY -- Introduced by M. of A. THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring the commissioner of motor vehicles to issue a license to at least one new inspection station in a zip code, in certain towns in the county of Suffolk, if a licensed inspection station currently does not exist THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subparagraph (i) of paragraph 3 of subdivision (a) of section 303 of the vehicle and traffic law, as amended by chapter 608 of the laws of 1993, is amended to read as follows: (i) emission inspection facilities must be geographically dispersed throughout each region in numbers sufficient to allow motorists reason- able access to such facilities. FOR TOWNS IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK WITH POPULATIONS OF LESS THAN SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND, IF A COMPLETE AND OTHER- WISE APPROVABLE INSPECTION STATION APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED FOR A FACILITY IN A ZIP CODE IN WHICH NO OTHER OFFICIAL LICENSED INSPECTION FACILITY EXISTS, THE COMMISSIONER SHALL APPROVE AND ISSUE A LICENSE FOR THE NEW FACILITY; S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend- ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen- tation of this act on its effective date is authorized to be made on or before such date.
