AN ACT to amend the legislative law, in relation to term limits for
elected members of the legislature
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The legislative law is amended by adding a new section 2-a
to read as follows:
S 2-A. LEGISLATIVE TERM LIMITS. MEMBERS OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE SHALL
NOT SERVE MORE THAN TWO CONSECUTIVE TERMS OF FOUR YEARS IN EITHER THE
SENATE OR THE ASSEMBLY.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
ing a regularly scheduled general election for senate and assembly seats
and shall apply to offices in the legislature which commence on or after
such effective date.
