2011-S2119 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Requires that all telephone corporations doing business in the state and providing pay telephones shall conspicuously post the name and telephone number of the local police precinct, agency or department on all telephones located in the state; directs the public service commission to promulgate rules and regulations necessary for the proper application, administration and enforcement of such requirement.

AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to posting  police
  department telephone numbers on pay telephones

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1.   The general business law  is  amended  by  adding  a  new
section 336-c to read as follows:
  S  336-C.  POSTING OF POLICE DEPARTMENT TELEPHONE NUMBERS ON PAY TELE-
PHONES. 1. ALL TELEPHONE CORPORATIONS DOING BUSINESS IN  THE  STATE  AND
PROVIDING PAY TELEPHONES SHALL CONSPICUOUSLY POST THE NAME AND TELEPHONE
NUMBER  OF  THE  LOCAL POLICE PRECINCT, AGENCY OR DEPARTMENT ON ALL SUCH
TELEPHONES LOCATED IN THIS STATE.
  2. THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION SHALL PROMULGATE THE RULES AND  REGU-
LATIONS   NECESSARY  FOR  THE  PROPER  APPLICATION,  ADMINISTRATION  AND
ENFORCEMENT OF SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it shall have become a law; provided, however, that the  public  service
commission  shall  promulgate  the  rules  and  regulations necessary to
effectuate the provisions of this act prior to such effective date.
