  printed to be committed to the Committee on Crime Victims,  Crime  and
  Correction

AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to denying violent felo-
  ny offenders a license to possess a firearm

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 701 of the correction law is amended  by  adding  a
new subdivision 4 to read as follows:
  4. A CERTIFICATE OF RELIEF FROM DISABILITIES SHALL NOT ENABLE A PERSON
WHO HAS BEEN CONVICTED OF A VIOLENT FELONY OFFENSE, AS DEFINED IN SUBDI-
VISION  ONE  OF  SECTION  70.02 OF THE PENAL LAW, TO OBTAIN A LICENSE TO
CARRY, POSSESS, REPAIR OR DISPOSE OF A FIREARM.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
