TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to amend the public health law, in relation to oversight of dental
laboratories and disclosure of the manufacturer of dental prosthetic
devices
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To increase oversight of dental
laboratories and to provide consumers with the knowledge of where
dental prosthetics including crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures or
implants are being manufactured prior to the consumer having dental
surgery.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 206 of the public health law
is amended by adding a new subdivision 28.
JUSTIFICATION:
Consumer protection and safety has and must remain a
top priority of state government. Too often consumers who have
undergone dental work including dental implants, crowns, veneers,
bridges and dentures face serious complications weeks or even months
later. This bill will provide greater oversight and will reduce the
potential for complications by requiring that the manufacturer and

AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to oversight of
dental laboratories and disclosure of the manufacturer of dental pros-
thetic devices
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 206 of the public health law is amended by adding a
new subdivision 28 to read as follows:
28. THE COMMISSIONER IS AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED TO PROMULGATE RULES
AND REGULATIONS TO ESTABLISH QUALITY STANDARDS FOR DENTAL PROSTHETIC
DEVICES SOLD IN THE STATE AND PRODUCED IN DENTAL LABORATORIES OR AT
OTHER DENTAL MANUFACTURING BUSINESSES. THE COMMISSIONER IS ALSO AUTHOR-
IZED AND DIRECTED TO PROMULGATE RULES AND REGULATIONS REQUIRING DISCLO-
SURE TO DENTISTS AND DENTAL PATIENTS OF THE PLACE OF MANUFACTURE OF ANY
DENTAL PROSTHETIC DEVICES USED BY THE DENTIST OR A PATIENT OF THE
DENTIST.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
have become a law.
