AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to authorizing the
commissioner of health to extend the validity of certifications for
emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians
and certified first responders
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 3011 of the public health law is amended by adding
a new subdivision 12 to read as follows:
12. THE COMMISSIONER IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND EMPOWERED TO EXTEND THE
CERTIFICATION OF AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, ADVANCED EMERGENCY
MEDICAL TECHNICIAN OR CERTIFIED FIRST RESPONDER WHO HAS SOUGHT RECERTIF-
ICATION THROUGH 10 NYCRR S 800.8 AND WHOSE CERTIFICATION IS SET TO
EXPIRE PRIOR TO THE NEXT SCHEDULED WRITTEN EXAMINATION. SUCH EXTENSION
SHALL BE FOR THE PERIOD UNTIL THE NEXT SCHEDULED RECERTIFICATION EXAM-
INATION AND SHALL INCLUDE SUCH TIME AS NECESSARY TO SCORE THE EXAM.
S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
