AN  ACT  to  direct  the  commissioner  of environmental conservation to
  establish trap zones in the Great South Bay

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  The  commissioner of environmental conservation is hereby
directed to establish trap zones for fishing and trapping  of  crab  and
other  crustacean, in the Great South Bay in accordance with the follow-
ing:
  (a) The establishment of such trap zones shall allow for boating traf-
fic in the Great South Bay that runs in the general east to west  direc-
tion,  keeping  such  navigation  lanes and common areas of boat traffic
free from traps.
  (b) If it is necessary to relocate current trap zones, such relocation
shall be done in a manner as to provide for expanding the size  of  such
zones at the new location.
  S  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
have become a law, provided, however, that the commissioner of  environ-
mental conservation shall promulgate any rules and regulations necessary
for the timely implementation of this act on its effective date.
