BILL NUMBER:S7463

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic pres-
ervation law, in relation to reduced fees for the use of campsites

PURPOSE: To provide persons who are sixty years of age or over with a
forty percent discount on any fees charged for the use of public camp-
sites, parks and other public places of recreation.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1 amends the Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Law by
adding a new section 13.32. This section provides that residents of the
State who are sixty years of age or over shall receive a forty percent
discount on any fees charged for the use of public campsites, parks and
other places of recreation in New York State.

Section 2 provides the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION: Many people who are sixty years of age or over have
retired or will be retiring. Upon retirement, they no longer earn their
previous salary. Rather, they may receive a small pension or have other
sources of income that are less than what they earned prior to retire-
ment. Therefore, in recognition of their reduction in income, this
legislation will provide any person sixty years of age or over with a
forty percent discount on any fees charged for the use of public camp-
sites, parks and other places of recreation in New York State.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: Minimal.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after
it shall have become law.
