AN ACT to amend the town law, in relation to exemptions from the  spend-
  ing limits of fire districts

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Subdivision 18 of section 176 of the town law is amended by
adding a new paragraph 17 to read as follows:
  (17) THE PAYMENT OF CHARGES FOR LEASED TELEPHONE  LINES  IN  ORDER  TO
MAINTAIN  AN  ADEQUATE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM PURSUANT TO SUBDIVISION FIFTEEN
OF THIS SECTION.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
