BILL NUMBER:S6422 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of state route 9 in Dutchess county as the "Detective John M. Falcone Memorial Highway" PURPOSE: To designate a portion of state route 9 from the southern boundary of the City of Poughkeepsie to the northern boundary of the City of Poughkeepsie as the "Detective John M. Falcone Memorial Highway." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the highway law by adding a new section, 344-c in order that a portion of state route 9 be designated as the "Detective John M. Falcone Memorial Highway." Section 2 directs the commissioner of the department of transportation to provide for "Detective John M. Falcone Memorial Highway" signage and provides that the name designation shall be one of a ceremonial nature. Section 3 provides the enacting clause. JUSTIFICATION:

GIPSON, LARKIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of state route 9 in Dutchess county as the "Detective John M. Falcone Memorial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-c to read as follows: S 344-C. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "DETECTIVE JOHN M. FALCONE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING NEW YORK STATE ROUTE 9 IN THE CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE, IN THE COUNTY OF DUTCHESS FROM ITS SOUTHERN BOUNDARY CONTINUING NORTH UNTIL THE NORTHERN BOUNDARY SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "DETECTIVE JOHN M. FALCONE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
