AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the  number  of  signa-
  tures on nominating petitions

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Paragraph (e) of subdivision 2  of  section  6-142  of  the
election  law,  as amended by chapter 79 of the laws of 1992, is amended
to read as follows:
  (e) for any office to be filled by all the voters of any congressional
district, [three thousand five hundred] TWO THOUSAND;
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
