  Gantt) -- (at request of the Department of  Motor  Vehicles)  --  read
  once and referred to the Committee on Transportation

AN  ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing
  the commissioner of motor vehicles to require  that  any  document  or
  process used by a regulated party be electronic

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
section 205-a to read as follows:
  S  205-A.  ELECTRONIC  RECORDS.    NOTWITHSTANDING  THE  PROVISIONS OF
SECTIONS THREE HUNDRED FIVE AND THREE HUNDRED NINE OF THE STATE TECHNOL-
OGY LAW OR ANY OTHER LAW, THE COMMISSIONER MAY REQUIRE ANY BUSINESS,  OR
THE  HOLDER  OF  AN OCCUPATIONAL LICENSE RELATED TO SUCH BUSINESS, REGU-
LATED PURSUANT TO ARTICLES FIVE, TWELVE, TWELVE-A,  TWELVE-B,  TWELVE-C,
FOURTEEN-A,    SIXTEEN,   NINETEEN-A,   FORTY-SEVEN,   FORTY-EIGHT,   OR
FORTY-EIGHT-B OF THIS CHAPTER TO FILE REPORTS OR RECORDS  BY  ELECTRONIC
MEANS.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
