MILLER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring all railroad transportation facilities located close to or within proximi- ty of a hospital to display a "H" hospital sign THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new section 1277-b to read as follows: S 1277-B. REQUIRED POSTING OF HOSPITAL SIGNS. ALL RAILROAD TRANSPORTA- TION FACILITIES, AS DEFINED IN SECTION TWELVE HUNDRED SIXTY-ONE OF THIS TITLE, CLOSE TO OR WITHIN PROXIMITY OF A HOSPITAL, MUST DISPLAY A "H" HOSPITAL SIGN. THE SIGN MUST BE CLEAR AND CONSPICUOUS AND CONSIST OF A WHITE "H" ON A BLUE BACKGROUND. THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORI- TY UNDER THIS ARTICLE WILL ESTABLISH THE CRITERIA FOR WHICH RAILROAD TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES ARE CLOSE TO OR WITHIN PROXIMITY OF A HOSPI- TAL. S 2. MILLER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions -- recommitted to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions in accordance with Assembly Rule 3, sec. 2 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring all subway passenger stations operated by the New York city transit authority located within one half mile of a hospital to display an "H" hospital sign THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new section 1277-b to read as follows: S 1277-B. REQUIRED POSTING OF HOSPITAL SIGNS. 1. THE AUTHORITY SHALL CLEARLY AND CONSPICUOUSLY DISPLAY IN EVERY PASSENGER STATION OF A SUBWAY OPERATED BY THE NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT AUTHORITY, LOCATED WITHIN ONE HALF MILE OF A HOSPITAL, AN "H" HOSPITAL SIGN, CONSISTENT WITH THE NEW YORK STATE MANUAL AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR A UNIFORM SYSTEM OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES, AS SUCH MANUAL AND SPECIFICATIONS MAY BE AMENDED FROM TIME TO TIME. THE AUTHORITY SHALL ALSO DISPLAY, IN CONNECTION WITH SUCH SIGN, AN ADDITIONAL SIGN THAT PROVIDES THE NAME AND STREET ADDRESS OF THE NEAREST HOSPITAL LOCATED WITHIN ONE HALF MILE OF THE PASSENGER STATION OF A SUBWAY. 2. FOR PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, "HOSPITAL" SHALL HAVE THE SAME MEAN- ING AS SET FORTH IN THE NEW YORK STATE MANUAL AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR A UNIFORM SYSTEM OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES, AS SUCH MANUAL AND SPECIFICA- TIONS MAY BE AMENDED FROM TIME TO TIME. 3. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, THE TERM "NEW YORK STATE MANUAL AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR A UNIFORM SYSTEM OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES" SHALL MEAN THE NATIONAL MANUAL OF UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES PROMULGATED BY THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION PURSUANT TO 23 CFR EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
