Relates to disqualification of former jurors; allows for a person who has served on a jury for more than fifty days, either consecutively or in the aggregate, to have the option to be deemed incompetent to serve again for the remainder of his or her life.

AN  ACT  to  amend the judiciary law, in relation to disqualification of
  former jurors

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 524 of the judiciary law is amended by adding a new
subdivision (e) to read as follows:
  (E)  NOTWITHSTANDING  THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION, A PERSON WHO HAS
SERVED ON A GRAND OR PETIT JURY FOR MORE THAN FIFTY DAYS, EITHER CONSEC-
UTIVELY OR IN THE AGGREGATE, SHALL HAVE THE OPTION TO BE DEEMED INCOMPE-
TENT TO SERVE AGAIN FOR THE REMAINDER OF HIS OR HER LIFE.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
