2015-A9815 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Requires the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, in consultation with the New York city transit authority, the Long Island Rail Road and the Metro-North Commuter Railroad Company, to allow riders travelling within the limits of the city of New York to pay a fare for commuter rail service equal to that of a MetroCard ride and for such riders to make free transfers.

AN ACT to amend the public  authorities  law,  in  relation  to  special
  powers of the authority

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 1266 of the public authorities law  is  amended  by
adding a new subdivision 19 to read as follows:
  19.  NOTWITHSTANDING  ANY  OTHER  PROVISION OF LAW OR THE TERMS OF ANY
CONTRACT, THE AUTHORITY, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE NEW YORK CITY  TRANSIT
AUTHORITY,  THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD AND THE METRO-NORTH COMMUTER RAIL-
ROAD COMPANY, SHALL ALLOW RIDERS TRAVELLING WITHIN  THE  LIMITS  OF  THE
CITY  OF  NEW YORK TO PAY A FARE FOR COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE EQUAL TO THAT
OF A METROCARD RIDE ON NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT SUBWAYS AND BUSES  AND  FOR
SUCH  RIDERS  TO  MAKE FREE TRANSFERS BETWEEN SAID COMMUTER RAIL AND NEW
YORK CITY TRANSIT SUBWAYS AND BUSES.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
