AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to directing the  commis-
  sion on uniform state laws to study and report on establishing uniform
  regions  of the state for the purposes of state agencies with regions,
  areas or other subdivisions of the state

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  The opening paragraph of section 165 of the executive law
is designated subdivision 1 and a new subdivision 2 is added to read  as
follows:
  2. IN ADDITION, THE COMMISSION ON UNIFORM STATE LAWS SHALL EXAMINE AND
EVALUATE  THE VARIOUS REGIONS, AREAS AND OTHER SUBDIVISIONS OF THE STATE
ESTABLISHED BY OR FOR THE VARIOUS AGENCIES OF THE STATE.   SUCH  COMMIS-
SION  SHALL,  IN  CONSULTATION  WITH STATE AGENCIES, ESTABLISH A UNIFORM
STATEWIDE DESIGNATION OF REGIONS OF THE STATE FOR STATE  AGENCIES.  EACH
SUCH REGION SHALL HAVE THE SAME DESIGNATION AND BOUNDARIES FOR ALL STATE
AGENCIES  SO  AS TO ASSURE THAT STATE RESIDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO REFER TO
THE SAME REGION REGARDLESS OF THE STATE AGENCY WITH WHICH THEY MUST HAVE
BUSINESS WITH. WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE  OF  THIS  SUBDIVI-
SION, THE COMMISSION ON UNIFORM STATE LAWS SHALL SUBMIT ITS FINDINGS AND
RECOMMENDATIONS,  INCLUDING  ANY  LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS, TO THE GOVERNOR
AND THE LEGISLATURE.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
