BILL NUMBER: S6938
TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the public authorities law, in
relation to discontinuing the Yonkers toll plaza on the New York state
thruway
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL :
To require the state thruway authority to remove the Yonkers Toll
Plaza.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS :
Section 354-a of the Public Authorities Law is amended by adding a new
section to read as follows: S354-a Yonkers Toll Plaza Discontinued.
The authority shall discontinue and remove the Yonkers toll plaza on
the New York state thruway.
JUSTIFICATION :
The New York State thruway has removed numerous tollbooths throughout
New York State and the NYS Thruway including the Spring Valley toll
plaza. Northbound motorists on the NYS Thruway constantly exit the
Thruway at Rte. 100 exit to avoid paying the toll and the continuation
of tollbooths at Yonkers continues to be a safety issue. Numerous
accidents occur due to the backup and congestion caused on Central

AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to discontinuing
the Yonkers toll plaza on the New York state thruway
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new
section 354-a to read as follows:
S 354-A. YONKERS TOLL PLAZA DISCONTINUED. THE AUTHORITY SHALL DISCON-
TINUE AND REMOVE THE YONKERS TOLL PLAZA ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
have become a law.

[ ] is old law to be omitted.
