AN  ACT  to  amend  the  public health law, in relation to requiring the
  compilation of the number of deaths by opioid overdose

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  Subdivision 2 of section 4100 of the public health law is
amended by adding a new paragraph (j) to read as follows:
  (J) REQUIRE THE COMPILATION OF THE NUMBER OF DEATHS  BY  OPIOID  OVER-
DOSE,  AS  DETERMINED BY THE NUMBER OF DEATH CERTIFICATES RECEIVED WHERE
SUCH A MANNER OF DEATH IS INDICATED PURSUANT TO PARAGRAPH (D) OF  SUBDI-
VISION  FOUR OF SECTION FORTY-ONE HUNDRED FORTY-ONE OF THIS ARTICLE. THE
COMMISSIONER SHALL COMPILE THE NUMBER OF OPIOID  OVERDOSE  DEATHS  ON  A
STATEWIDE  AND  COUNTY-BY-COUNTY BASIS ON NO LESS THAN A QUARTERLY BASIS
AND RELEASE THIS INFORMATION, LESS ANY PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE  INFORMA-
TION,  ON THE DEPARTMENT'S WEBSITE. IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK, THE COMMIS-
SIONER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH FOR THE CITY OF  NEW  YORK  SHALL  BE
CHARGED  WITH  COLLECTING  AND  FORWARDING  THE  APPROPRIATE INFORMATION
REGARDING THE NUMBER OF OPIOID OVERDOSE DEATHS OCCURRING WITHIN  HIS  OR
HER JURISDICTION TO THE COMMISSIONER ON NO LESS THAN A MONTHLY BASIS.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it shall have become a law.
