 AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in  relation  to  codifying
   distinctive  plates  for  emergency  medical technician paramedics and
   eliminating the annual service charge for such plates
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  The  vehicle  and  traffic law is amended by adding a new
 section 404-ee to read as follows:
   § 404-EE. DISTINCTIVE PLATES FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PARAMED-
 ICS. 1. ANY EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN  PARAMEDICS  RESIDING  IN  THIS
 STATE  SHALL,  UPON  REQUEST, BE ISSUED A LICENSE PLATE BEARING THE WORD
 "PARAMEDIC". APPLICATION FOR SAID LICENSE PLATE SHALL BE FILED WITH  THE
 COMMISSIONER   IN  SUCH  FORM  AND  DETAIL  AS  THE  COMMISSIONER  SHALL
 PRESCRIBE.
   2. THE DISTINCTIVE PLATE AUTHORIZED HEREIN SHALL BE ISSUED UPON PROOF,
 SATISFACTORY TO THE COMMISSIONER, THAT THE  APPLICANT  IS  AN  EMERGENCY
 MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PARAMEDIC.
   3. A DISTINCTIVE PLATE ISSUED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION SHALL BE ISSUED
 IN  THE  SAME  MANNER  AS  OTHER NUMBER PLATES UPON PAYMENT OF THE SIXTY
 DOLLAR REGISTRATION FEE,  PROVIDED,  HOWEVER,  THAT  NO  ANNUAL  SERVICE
 CHARGE SHALL BE CHARGED FOR SUCH PLATE.
   § 2. Distinctive plates issued prior to the effective date of this act
 bearing  the  word  "paramedic"  shall be considered to have been issued
 under section 404-ee of the vehicle and traffic law and all such  plates
 issued  after  the  effective  date of this act shall be issued with the
 same issuance requirements, fees and service charges as a  plate  issued
 under such section.
   § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
