 AN ACT to amend the real property tax law, in relation to granting muni-
   cipalities  the  authority to provide real property tax exemptions for
   certain cold war veterans
 
   THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
 
   Section  1.  Section  458-b of the real property tax law is amended by
 adding a new subdivision 9 to read as follows:
   9. A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN, OR VILLAGE MAY ADOPT A LOCAL LAW TO INCLUDE A
 MALE OR FEMALE VETERAN WHO SERVED UNDER THE FEDERAL RESERVE  FORCES  ACT
 OF  1955,  PUBLIC  LAW 305, 84TH CONGRESS (69 STAT. 598) DURING THE COLD
 WAR PERIOD WITHIN THE DEFINITION OF "COLD WAR VETERAN"  AS  PROVIDED  IN
 PARAGRAPH  (A)  OF  SUBDIVISION  ONE  OF THIS SECTION PROVIDED THAT SUCH
 VETERANS MEET ALL OTHER QUALIFICATIONS  UNDER  THE  PROVISIONS  OF  THIS
 SECTION.
   § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to assess-
 ment  rolls  on  the basis of taxable status dates occurring on or after
 the second day of January next succeeding the date  on  which  this  act
 shall have become a law.
